According to the UN, over 85 million individuals worldwide have been forcibly displaced as a result of persecution, conflict, violence, or human rights violations. We believe Jesus has called KAC to love, support, and welcome the families and individuals seeking refuge in Canada.

We are excited to announce the Al Aqbi family arrived in Kamloops December 1 2021.

The Al Aqbi family fled Iraq in 2014 after experiencing significant religious persecution from the Iraqi militia, as well as from family members who are strongly opposed to their faith. They are currently living in Turkey as refugees with no rights to employment or travel. Saif works odd-end-jobs with employers who are willing to overlook his refugee status; however, he has lost his job multiple times due to his faith. Any additional support they receive comes from the church they attend in Yalova. They have been threatened, beaten, and ostracized, but they are “unwilling to betray Jesus”.

Resettlement is often a difficult and stressful process for each refugee family. Our goal is to help equip each refugee with the support and skills necessary to rebuild their lives in Canada. There are many tasks and facets of resettlement that need to be addressed, from the official documents, financial support, household setup, English learning, social networking, employment, and so much more.
